Windows 7 RC1 (build 7100) 64-bit
// April 28th, 2009 // 7, Microsoft, Windows
With the success of the Windows 7 beta finally comes the (albeit leaked) Release Candidate 1 of Windows 7! The public release date is scheduled for April 30th, for MSDN and TechNet subscribers — don’t panic though, a public version will be able to be downloaded on May 5th. There have been tons, absolutely tons, of changes since build 7000 (the beta release). If you want to read about these changes, read these official blog posts: “Some Changes Since Beta”, and “A few more changes from beta to RC…”.
A working copy (ISO) of the Windows 7 RC1 can be found on Mininova, here. The comments suggest that it’s a legit copy — no added trojans, the hashes match, etcetera etcetera. To download this torrent, use a program such as µTorrent or BitTorrent. Don’t forget to seed, don’t be a hit’n run now! Installation notes after the jump..
The easiest method to install the Windows 7 RC1 would be to partition your hard drive (I gave it 70GB), then mount the ISO with Daemon Tools and choose to install it onto your newly created, and formatted, partition. You do not need to burn the ISO to a disk, mounting the ISO with Daemon Tools works just fine — please note that your computer will be restarted multiple times during the installation, so choose a time when you’re not busy to install the operating system as it can take upwards to about 15-20 minutes.
